Born on 10 November 1955, in Bradford, Yorkshire, England Clare Higgins was the second child of her parents. Clare had a very tough child life as she ran away from home at age of 17 and gave birth to a child at the age of 19 whom she had to let go for adoption as she was unable to raise him. Higgins got her first chance of acting at the age of 23 when she was graduating from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic arts. Higgins got many awards during her acting career. In late 80s she had already become a popular stage actress in London and had already won three Olivier Awards. In the year 1983 she acted as Christine Manson with Ben Cross in “The Citadel.” Higgins got her first break in big screen with the performance in violent movie Hellraiser. She again starred in the sequel of the movie in the year 1988 which was considered brutal and very violent by many viewers. Her performance in Hellraiser attracted many eyes towards her and that role gave a push to her career and she excelled in the field of acting.
At 21 she was called for an audition for LMDA though till then she had never taken any training for professional acting, but there her acting ability was spotted and she was sent on training for three years. It was in LMDA that she knew about her acting ability and got serious on her theater performances. After that she was offered many roles in different theatrical groups for traditional and contemporary roles.
Clare Higgins is Britain’s top most actress. She had good career in television but her acting ability on stage was what made her popular. She got more awards for her performances in theater then on television. Higgins again got the Laurence Olivier Award in 1995 for her role in Sweet bird of Youth. She also got London Critics Circle Theatre Award in 2002. She got many awards and prizes and won appraisals from critics for her performance. She also got the Best actress award for her role in The Children’s Hours in 1994. Besides that Clare was also nominated for Broadway’s 2003 Tony Award as Best Actress for Vincent in Brinxton.
She also got many roles in television but her performance on stage always overshadowed her television performances. In the 80s she was spotted in many television series and worked with many popular actor and actresses of that era. In recent time she was seen in a television series Murder in Suburbia where she was playing the role of DCI Helen Whittle. Besides” Hellraiser” the 2004 Johnny Depp movie” The Libertine and 2005 movie Bigger than the Sky are two movies which helped excel her acting career. She has also played the role of Ma Costa in 2007 movie adapted from novel His Dark Materials.
Clare Higgins has a career with full ups and downs but here luck and ability to act bestowed her with full success and she continued to grow in acting in theater as well as on screen.
